چکیده

in this work, a numerical study of sheet cavitation has been performed on dtmb4119 marine propellers, using boundary element method (based on potential flow assumption). in propeller design, various parameters of geometry and flow are incorporated. so, a computer program is needed to take all parameters into account and solve the flow. capability of analyzing the wetted and cavitating flow around propellers in steady, unsteady, uniform, and non-uniform conditions, while decreasing of computational time, with acceptable precision, are the characteristic features of the present work. moreover, modifying the position of the detachment point and its corresponding potential value have been considered. numerical results have been validated with experimental data, showing satisfying agreements.

A Boundary Element Method for the Computation of Unsteady Sheet Cavitation Effects in Marine Propeller Flows

This paper focuses on the modelling and simulation of unsteady sheet cavitation in marine propeller flows. In the first part of the paper, the mathematical model based on potential flow theory is introduced and the numerical scheme is derived. The novelty of the presented calculation method refers to the unsteady partial sheet cavitation model which has been implemented into the in-house panel ...

Numerical Prediction of Sheet Cavitation on Rudder and Podded Propellers Using Potential and Viscous Flow Solutions

This paper presents some recent validation results with velocity-based source BEM analysis program as applied to prediction of cavitation on rudder and podded propellers. The RANS solver is also applied to modelling of the rudder behind the propeller and the both BEM and RANS numerical predictions are compared with the experimental data. An example of prediction of cavitation on podded propelle...

Numerical simulation of turbulent flow around the dtmb4119 propeller in open water conditions

In this study, ANSYS-FLUENT packages are employed to simulate the turbulent flow around DTMB4119 propeller in open water conditions. In order to form a mesh, the multiple reference frame (MRF) methodology is used. The results are compared with the experimental results and a good conformity is obtained, which endorses numerical simulation. Furthermore, the  turbulence model is used, which is sup...

Numerical Simulation of Partial Cavitation over Axisymmetric Bodies: VOF Method vs. Potential Flow Theory

A computational study of partial cavitation over axisymmetric bodies is presented using two numerical methods. The first method is based on the VOF technique where transient 2D Navier-Stokes equations are solved along with an equation to track the cavity interface. Next, the steady boundary element method (BEM) based on potential flow theory is presented. The results of the two methods for a di...

Numerical investigation on the pullout shear strength of soil-nail interface using finite element method

Soil nailing is a popular reinforcement method for stabilizing slopes, excavations, and retaining walls in many countries. The pullout capacity of the soil-nail interface is a critical parameter for the design and safety assessment of soil-nailed systems. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model is developed using the commercial program ABAQUS to simulate the pullout te...
